In Kiev, there was a briefing on the theme "Respect for the rights of people with disabilities and their support in the framework of the finals of the European football championship Euro-2012 with the participation of the Director of the Local Organizing Committee for Euro-2012 Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivsky, managing director of the Center access to football Europe CAFE Joyce Cook, president of the National Paralympic Committee of Ukraine, Chairman of the National Assembly of Disabled of Ukraine Valery Sushkevich.
Soccer is called a "game of millions." The briefing participants discussed what should be done to "football is not excluded" people with disabilities. In the European Union lives of more than 50 million such people. This is equal to the population of Belgium, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary and the Netherlands combined. In Ukraine, people with disabilities - 2,7 million. According to statistics, 50% of persons with disabilities have never participated in sports, cultural and recreational activities. A third of them have never traveled abroad. On their way - the architectural and transportation barriers. In many countries, any physical limitation of access to infrastructure is considered a form of discrimination.
According to statistics, about 500,000 Europeans with disabilities are football fans.
Unfortunately, in Ukraine the problem of life of these people began to discuss only in connection with the Euro-2012. UEFA initiated in countries hosting the European championships, implementing social responsibility programs. Therefore, the National Assembly of Disabled of Ukraine, National Committee on behalf of disabled sports League in cooperation with the Organizing Committee for Euro-2012 Ukraine is developing the program, respectively.
