Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in DonetskHoly Transfiguration Cathedral in Donetsk - named after the Christian holiday of the Transfiguration, which is celebrated on August 19. The Cathedral is belong to the Donetsk Diocese.

Building was started in autumn 1883, in Yuzovka stone building of the Orthodox Church in place of a wooden temple. November 2, 1886 the church was consecrated. Fellowship Church of the Savior-Transfiguration Church in 1896 founded the school in Bratsk Yuzovka. Cathedral of the Savior Transfiguration Cathedral was destroyed in 1933 during the campaign against religion in the USSR.

February 12, 1992 Donetsk city council decided on the allocation of land and the beginning of construction of the cathedral on the site of an old cemetery. The new cathedral being built in a different form than that which it was before its destruction. Place built a new cathedral is not the same as the old. Construction started in 1997.

In 2002, the Kiev authorities gave Donetsk bronze statue of the Archangel Michael, as it stands on Independence Square in Kiev. This is a return gift of a copy of Kyiv palm Mertsalova, which Kiev has presented, to Donetsk in the summer of 2001. The statue is installed at the entrance to the cathedral.
