Donbass Arena stadium"Donbass Arena" is a modern football stadium in Donetsk, built in 2009, has 50 thousand spectators places. Home stadium of FC Shakhtar. Located in a park in name of Lenin Komsomol. It was built on the initiative and with direct support of Donetsk businessman, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Rinat Akhmetov.

 

 

 

Location

The Donbass Arena is situated in the central part of Donetsk (Voroshilovskiy district) - in the area pertaining to Leninskogo Komsomola Leisure Park. Chelyuskintsev St. and Mira Ave. are within immediate vicinity of the stadium (westwards and southwards respectively). Yunost’ youth palace, Shakhtar hotel, Olympiyskiy regional sports complex, Beliy Lebed’ shopping mall, Centaur Plaza business centre are within easy reach.

Krytiy Rynok bus stop is within walking distance (about 10 minute walk) from the stadium. One can arrive there by taking the following routes: No’s 13, 14, 16, 46а, 46б, 73б, 77.

Construction

The construction of the stadium began in 2006 under the leadership of general contractor - Turkish company Enka. Despite significant differences with the local design standards need to adapt and refine the draft taking into account the requirements of the customer, the project team completed the construction of the stadium on time. The high quality of design documentation and construction works, the new stadium which will increase its regulatory authorities and UEFA. The cost of the project, construction of the stadium and park around it is 400 million U.S. dollars.

Design

The external design of the stadium was designed by British company "ArupSport" which already have a large experience in building stadiums. A new development was such that many of the stadium is like a "flying saucer in the park". The roof of the stadium is inclined from north to south, thus enhances the natural lighting and ventilation field. One of the main features of the design is fully glazed facade.

  • The total capacity of the stadium after the renovation of 51,504 seats
  • 1,159 seats for the media (424 for print media, 432 for non-print media, 168 seats for observers;
  • 45 commentary positions, each having 3 seats)
  • 196 seats for the people with disabilities and their carers (104 and 92 respectively)
  • 830 seats in the 45 executive boxes of the stadium
  • 25 ha is the total area covered by the park and the stadium
  • The pitch size is 105m х 68m
  • 2,000 lux is the lighting intensity, ensured by 272 high-precision targeting spotlights mounted along the perimeter of the stadium's roof
